"Don't let someone take & eat your heart"
This simple phrase inspired the creation of the web log "Eater of Hearts" at eaterofhearts.wordpress.com that encouraged authors, poets, songwriters and artists across the Web to offer their own unique interpretations of the macabre moral.
Those who went to the blog found these instructions:
Whether you write, or create art, or compose music, this is the idea: use this story moral as an inspiration for your work. It can be literal or metaphorical, abstract or concrete. It's just there for inspiration. I'm sure we've all let someone eat our heart, at some point.
The originators of the blog wanted to know how many ways that moral and its attendant imagery could be interpreted. To date over two dozen people have contributed a story, poem, flash piece or artwork and the blog is still actively accumulating new works, as of this writing. Most of the contributors came to the project via Twitter, where the hashtag #hearteater helped originate, organize, and promulgate the idea.
Hearteater is a collection of the poetry, prose and artwork submitted by many of those first two dozen contributors to the "Eater of Hearts" blog.
What you are about to read is the myriad responses to what is both a horrific and romantic piece of imagery. The word "Hearteater" means many things as you will see in these pages.
All proceeds from the purchase of this eBook will go to the charity WaterAid.
